Million-dollar bride11 April 2010, 22:40:07 - (488 hits) When a supermodel weds, one expects her bridal outfit to be on a superlative scale, and so it was when Amber Chia married Adrian Wong.
After the failed attempt at hushing up her marriage to KL businessman Adrian Wong on March 25, Amber Chia has decided she might as well put on a grand show by revealing the outfit she wore for the most important day of her life.
As befits Malaysia’s first, officially certified supermodel, Chia, 29, wore a simple yet striking gown at her wedding in Diwangkara Holiday Villa in Bali. Designed by leading couturier Keith Kee with exactly 999 pearls for luck, her gown was a labour of love that took two months and three days to complete.
A battalion of 18 toiled to hand-stitch the pearls supplied by Winnie Sin, owner of Rafflesia the Pearl Centre, onto the dress made of French silk chiffon and French silk satin.
“I was shocked and almost dropped my mobile phone when Amber rang and asked if I would create her wedding gown,” recalls Kee, who has known the supermodel for seven years.
“She could have chosen any designer, so it was a big honour for me. After she briefed me, I showed only two designs for Adrian and her to choose from — an open V-neck (which she picked) or a halter-neck. The pearls were concentrated on her shoulder straps and bodice, with a light sprinkling on her outer gown layer. The pearls were of different sizes and very difficult to arrange as I wanted to show their shiniest surfaces for maximum impact,” he adds.
And how much did it cost?
Well, any bride can order a similar gown for RM380,000 inclusive of the 999 pearls. It’s an additional RM880,000 if you want the matching set of South Sea pearl necklace, ring and earrings.
“Amber wanted a classy and elegant set of pearls to complement her gown,” Sin explains. “So she opted for a single strand of magnificent pearls ranging from 15mm to 18mm and pearl earrings with diamonds. She did not want any bracelet as she preferred her arms bare and requested a solitary, 19mm pearl ring with small diamonds since she wanted to wear her two-carat solitaire diamond engagement ring (worth RM50,000) on the other hand.”
Datuk Jimmy Choo handmade her RM250,000, size-39 wedding shoes, with bling supplied by Rafflesia.
“Amber has beautifully shaped feet, very dainty, slim and narrow. I decided on a classic sharp, pointed design with slim heels accented with a pair of big and small pearls with diamonds created by Winnie Sin. The big pearls are 18mm and smaller ones are 10mm,” Choo says.
Her exquisite bridal posy was made by Angie Lim of Unique Touch using white phalaenopsis or moth orchids and dendodriums. It was a giveaway at RM500. News from thestar.com.my
